Exactly 200 years ago, the debris from the collapsed nave of the Dom Church was cleared, creating the square as we know it today. This history inspires Domplein volunteers to visit Utrecht neighbourhoods to pick up litter. They know better than anyone what beauty can emerge when you clean up. In this way, Domplein contributes in a contemporary way to a cleaner city and to meaningful connections in local communities.
On Domplein, special attention is given to people for whom visiting heritage sites is not self-evident due to a medical condition or disability. Therefore, the locations are used to raise awareness of various diseases and disabilities. Examples include participation in World Kidney Day, the Metakids Team Challenge, and a heroic climb by rehabilitation patients from De Hoogstraat who are recovering from a stroke.
Through the “From Ruins to Riches” activities programme, Utrecht-based talent is given a platform at Domplein. Artists and creators from the city are offered space to showcase their work and reach new audiences. This not only strengthens the cultural life of the square but also helps create a vibrant, creative city where local talent can grow and become visible.
Domplein is for and by everyone. That is why multiple free activities and open days are organised each year, ensuring that people with limited financial means can also experience the remarkable heritage on and beneath the square. From stories and guided tours to cultural programmes: barriers are lowered, and the rich history of Domplein is made accessible to all residents of Utrecht. In this way, the heritage remains alive and connected to the city.

Tickets voor een rondleiding of liftbezoek koop je eenvoudig van tevoren via onze online ticketshop of aan de kassa in de Utrecht Winkel / VVV, gelegen op Domplein 9. Dit is ook het startpunt van de rondleidingen op de Domtoren. Let op: het is niet toegestaan (hand)tassen mee te nemen de Domtoren op. Hiervoor stellen wij gratis kluisjes ter beschikking.
